We are not currently recruiting for trainees as we have sufficient candidates in place. However, this is subject to change and further details will be put on this page as vacancies arise.
Do you fulfil the following criteria?
- A polished and positive image?
- Are you enthusiastic, ambitious, committed, a self-starter, straightforward, bright and pleasant?
- Are you able to stick to your guns when necessary (and able to decide when to compromise)?
- Are you able to argue your point coherently? Please be sure to tell us of any experience of moots or debating at post-school level. Alternatively, tell us of any other work experience where you have had to stand your ground and argue your point e.g. the customer help desk at a supermarket.
- Is your written work of a very high standard - accurate, coherent and without jargon?
- Your application letter and CV must be free from errors.
- Have you demonstrated your commitment to a career in the law by undertaking relevant work experience?
- Successful candidates will have undertaken at least 2 types of relevant work experience ( eg work in a solicitors' firm, a mini-pupillage, working in the courts etc.)
- Is your degree a 2:1 or higher? We will still consider candidates with a 2:2 but they must demonstrate exceptional ability and convince us of their intellectual capacity. In those circumstances, relevant work experience ( law and non-law) will be of particular importance.
- If you have taken, or are planning to take, a gap year, please tell us why you are doing so and the benefits that you believe this will bring to your career with Buller Jeffries.
- We welcome applications from candidates who have legal executive qualifications and from those considering law as a second career.
What can you expect from Buller Jeffries?
- We provide comprehensive training in a supportive environment with a focus on personal development.
- Trainees must expect to participate in client contact and entertainment from the start of their training contract.
- Many of our trainees are active in the Birmingham Trainee Solicitors' Society and other professional organisations.
- We offer excellent career prospects for the successful candidate - we grow our own and keep them. 68% of our fee earners (solicitors and legal executives) either trained with us or joined us upon qualification.
- We provide work that is both challenging and rewarding.
- Our culture is one of quality, openness, integrity and efficiency - does this match your values?
- Competitive Salary
During your training contract, you will spend most of the time in litigation although you will also spend several months in the property/private client department. We encourage trainees to get hands on experience of our work from an early stage; each trainee, therefore, has their own case load ie. their own files that they work on and run to trial or settlement, with supervision. You can expect to have your first file within 2 weeks of starting your training contract. In addition, you will work closely with your training supervisor on their files and your own work.
How to apply
We have 1 to 2 opportunities each year for training contracts, commencing September for a 2 year period. We require a curriculum vitae of not more than 2 pages in length together with a covering letter (handwritten) setting out any particular information that you would like us to consider in addition to that contained in your CV. We do not have an application form. Please send your CV and letter to Geoffrey Lewis by post to 36, Bennetts Hill, Birmingham B2 5SN. If you are successful at this first stage, you will be invited to an interview.
